Intelligent horses and how to re-direct their attention

I had a Showjumping horse named Digga. He was a very smart horse, too smart for his own good. I’ve highlighted some of the problems I was faced with while riding him, and how I learnt to deal with them. Avoid repetitive workouts – One of the biggest issues I had was that smart horses learn what to do too quickly. This can be an issue when warming up for a show jumping round, or having a class. A way to avoid boredom behaviour, (which can include bucking, heavy head, and “of their own mind” type behaviour) is to avoid repetitive workouts. This will keep the horse preoccupied and interested in what you’re asking of it.
